At the Tipperary County Council meeting of 10th February 2025, the elected members of Tipperary County Council considered the Draft Carrick-on-Suir Local Area Plan 2025-2031 and the Chief Executive's Report prepared in respect of same in accordance with Section 20(3) of the Planning and Development Act 2000, as amended.

The proposed works consist of the construction of front of school upgrades at St. Mary’s Central National School, Killenaule, Co. Tipperary, encompasses a site of approximately 0.37 ha, to include parts of Bailey Street and Killenuale School Road within the townlands of Killenaule and Knockavadagh.

In accordance with Section 20 of the Planning & Development Act 2000 (as amended), Tipperary County Council has published the Draft Carrick-on-Suir Local Area Plan 2025-2031, which comprises of the following:
Tipperary County Council is preparing a new Local Area Plan for Carrick-on-Suir, which will set out the land use strategy for the town to ensure the town can grow, support employment and homes and can do so sustainably and successfully.
The Council is inviting submissions from the public to identify priorities and help shape the future development of the town. This stage represents the ‘issues’ stage before a draft of the Local Area Plan is published. An Issues Paper has been produced to help inform submissions and sets out:
Development of new carpark in the townland of Townparks, between Chapel St.(identified as L6711 New Lane on GIS system) and Stable Lane, North of Main St. Carrick on Suir, Co. Tipperary to provide convenient off-street parking in close proximity to Main St. This parking will complement the reduction in parking to Main St. resulting from the Carrick-on-Suir Regeneration Plan. The aim of the Carrick-on-Suir Regeneration plan is improvements in active travel, sense of place, and pedestrian and vulnerable road users’ use.
Demolition of 8 no. existing derelict buildings and boundary walls at the old Goldcrop Site on The Quay, Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary. The project will involve safe demolition and removal of the derelict buildings, walls and associated structures at the site.
The proposed works will comprise of the following:
• Demolition and removal of 8 no. existing derelict buildings
• Demolition and removal of boundary walls facing onto The Quay
• Demolition and removal of the existing weighbridge located within the Goldcrop site
The construction of a multi-denominational Cemetery which shall be enclosed by masonry boundary walls on all sides and include the following: Main (front) Gate & Disability Access Gate; Car park to the front; flexible material cemetery access roads; Access paths to Irish Wheelchair Association Guidelines; Central Reflection Area with seating & planting; Columbarium Walls; Utility Shed & WC; The proposed development (total of 997 grave plots; 2-burials per plot) shall be constructed over 3 Phases i.e. Ph.1- 522 Plots; Ph.2- 435 Plots; Ph.3- 40 Plots.
